Vaccine efficacy studies with Nobivac® Bb for cats

Two trials have been carried out to determine the efficacy and onset of immunity of Nobivac® Bb for cats. These studies show that Nobivac® Bb for cats can be given to kittens as young as 4 weeks and that significant protection is obtained as early as 72 hours after vaccination.

Efficacy of vaccination

In the first study (Williams et al 2002) 4 week old kittens were vaccinated with Nobivac® Bb for cats by the intranasal route. Three weeks later the vaccinated kittens and a number of unvaccinated controls were challenged with an aerosol of virulent Bordetella bronchiseptica. Vaccination reduced the development of clinical sign scores associated with respiratory tract infection by 92% as compared to unvaccinated controls.

Onset of immunity

In this study (Williams et al 2002, Gray et al 2002a), 8 week old kittens were vaccinated with Nobivac® Bb for cats by the intranasal route. The vaccinated kittens were challenged with virulent Bordetella bronchiseptica 72 hours after vaccination. Mean clinical score in vaccinated cats was reduced 79% compared to the control cats.
